Law & regulation vividly explained

The task

Legal topics and the areas of compliance and regulation are becoming increasingly important, especially in times of transformation and the development of new technologies. However, at first glance, they usually affect a very narrow audience such as specialist lawyers, CCOs or employees in finance. It is difficult to find a hearing here beyond the trade press. And even in the trade press, areas of application are often too specialized, the media simply do not have editorial space for the special topics of our customers or the publication cycles are so short that too little buzz can be achieved through the placement of specialist articles.

Our task as a communications agency is to present special legal and regulatory topics in such a way that they also become relevant for other media. We need good and creative storytelling that makes our clients' fields of activity and products accessible to a wider audience. We need answers to the question: “Why should I care?”

eDiscovery

The eDiscovery software provider Recommind supported lawyers in antitrust proceedings and the fight against corruption. Over the years, the company had built up a very good reputation among law firms through marketing, but then wanted to reach decision-makers at board level through targeted PR - and thus open up new avenues for sales.

Commercial law

The law firm Bird & Bird wanted to present the expertise of its lawyers in the various areas of law and focus sectors of the firm. Also in the context of compliance & investigation, data protection, public procurement law or antitrust law.

Money laundering

Hawk AI uses the computing power of the cloud and AI to support money laundering prevention at financial institutions. Our task: to become visible as a reliable partner for banks, payment service providers and fintechs and to awaken the topic of AML from its slumber.

Our approach

Sometimes you have to paint the devil on the wall. With legal issues, we generally only deal with them when we have to. Because it affects us acutely, for example. The art of making our clients' issues connectable therefore lies in creating “concern”. The best way to do this is to show what is at stake when law and regulation are left out of the equation.

With a radical reversal of perspective, we told Recommind's business case from the employee's end, for example: How risky are untrained and naive employees in compliance issues? What do managing directors have to take the rap for in the end? For Hawk AI, we talked about the question of why we can't really get to the bottom of financial crime. And for the experts at Bird & Bird, we pick up on current debates and shed light on the need for legal action or explain the facts and consequences for companies and/or society.

A change of perspective is the be-all and end-all when it comes to hot topics such as compliance, law and regulation. Otherwise it will be difficult to transport them from the trade press to daily and business media with a wider reach.
